Department of Energy honors Shell stations with Seal of Excellence, recognizes 20 Angkas Riders for price monitoring

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa DOE sa programang ito. Hindi lamang dahil ang layunin namin ay masigurado ang tamang serbisyo, tamang produkto, tamang presyo, at ang magandang karanasan ng mamimili,” (I thank the DOE for this program. It’s not just because it’s our goal to make sure we’re giving the right service, the right products, with the right prices, and a good customer experience.) Arvin Obmerga, Pilipinas Shell Head of Mobility Marketing said of the government recognition.

“Kundi dahil nabibigyan po ng pagkakataon ang ating mga Angkas Rider-partners na iangat ang mga kondisyon sa kanilang kabuhayan, na pahalagahan ang sarili nilang kaligtasan, at na magkaroon ng boses at halaga sa industrya kung saan sila ay kasapi. (But because it gives our Angkas Rider-partners the opportunity to raise their living conditions, value their own safety, and have a voice and value in the industry of which they are members.)”

The Seal of Excellence is awarded to exemplary retail outlets (ROs) that have complied with downstream oil industry rules and regulations, provided quality services, and maintained the cleanliness of their structures. Three Pilipinas Shell stations received the awards: the Pasig Boulevard station in Bagong Ilog, Pasig; the J.P. Rizal St. Station in Lamuan, Malanday, Marikina; and the Shell Forbes Park Compound in EDSA cor. McKinley Rod., Forbes Park, Makati. These stations scored high in the four major categories for evaluation: the tidiness, sanitation, and neatness of the forecourt; restroom cleanliness and spotlessness, excellent station personnel service, and availability of air and water facilities especially for the customers.

Retail outlets and fuel stations who receive the Seal of Excellence are acknowledged to be highly compliant with existing government rules and regulations.

In alignment with their commitment to provide the motorists and passengers efficient customer services including affordable gas prices, the DOE, in partnership with the motorcycle taxi riding-service app, Angkas, and Pilipinas Shell likewise recognized 20 Angkas Riders for their exemplary performance in the real-time monitoring of pump prices at selected gas stations.

This program, which ran from July 12 to November 15, had riders evaluating selected Metro Manila fuel stations in their compliance to government-recommended petroleum product pricing, facilities maintenance, and customer service. 

To handle the logistical aspects of collecting the data, Angkas riders scanned and reported the gas prices and services in the stations. They then inputted their findings by scanning via their mobile phones on the QR codes that the DOE had posted in strategic locations at various Makati and Taguig gasoline stations. 

In support of their efforts, Pilipinas Shell gave branded jackets, arm sleeves, and additional Shell goods to the top 20 outstanding Angkas Riders who provided consistent, accurate reportage.

Shell and Angkas partnerships

Shell and Angkas began their partnership in 2019 in Cagayan de Oro City. Angkas riders who signed up with Shell GO+ were given Angkas branded Shell GO+ Pro cards which gave them access to discounts, benefits, and rewards in all Shell Mobility stations.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shell and its Mobility stations and Angkas have been working closely with customers to manage their needs during challenging times. “Gusto ko din ipa-saludo yung mga bikers dahil kayo po ay ang mga bayani ng Pilipinas. Dahil sa ating mga riders, nakakatulong makarating ang mga kailangan natin ng mas mabilis at mas ligtas” (I would like to salute the bikers, because you are the heroes of the Philippines. The riders help in ensuring that the essential items and other deliveries reach their recipients quickly and safely.)

The Angkas riders in attendance expressed their gratitude for the recognition, seeing it as a manifestation of wholehearted support from the Filipino people. "Pinapatuloy ang ating makakaya, maraming salamat po sa iyo na pinabigyan niyo po kami ng tiwala sa aming mga Angkas riders,” (We continue to do our best, thank you so much for giving us, the Angkas riders, your confidence”), said Angkas Rider Elesar Macasero.
